Long active in education, Jay believes in a positive approach to education, with a healthy dose of humor. Jay maintains an active private studio, teaching all ages. Previously, he was Director of Jazz Bands at Lawrence Central High School, and has served on the Faculties Of the University of Indianapolis and Marian University. Jay is available for concerts and clinics, and has appeared as a soloist with bands of all levels. Mr. Young is an artist/clinician for Conn-Selmer musical instruments.
Naptown Jazz 5
The Naptown Jazz 5 was founded in 1977 by the legendary Drummer Jack Gilfoy to provide Arts educational programming , specifically Jazz, to a wide variety of audiences. Upon Jack's passing, longtime member and trumpeter Steve Robinett took over the leadership and continued until his recent retirement. Upon Steve's retirement...Jay took over leadership of the group. The Naptown Jazz 5 plys many performances throughout the year at schools and community centers. We offer three different shows. The "Wee-Do-Wop" show is geared toward preschools. The "Fun with Jazz" show is geared toward Elementary/Early middle school Students, and The "Jazz State of Indiana" show is geared toward Junior High and Older.
