At home in a broad range of styles, Jay has played countless shows over the years, You name it; Big Bands, Broadway Musicals, Symphony Orchestras, Small Jazz Groups, Horn Section, Chamber Music, Classical, Jazz, Rock, Pop, R&B, Etc. Whether for live shows or recording sessions, Jay is comfortable on ALL Saxophones, EWI, Flute, Clarinet and Bass Clarinet, and in a wide variety of settings. Mr. Young is known as an excellent sight reader, a creative improviser, and a consummate professional.
Special Events
Need music for a special event? Jay can provide everything from Solo Sax, Duo, Trio, Quartet, Quintet, Sextet, even a Full Big Band! His groups have performed for numerous events, Cocktail Parties, Meetings, Award Ceremonies, Weddings, Galas......Whatever you need, he has you covered. Jay's groups have performed to rave reviews. Your guests will LOVE the ambiance created by these stellar musicians.
Horn Section
Want to add horns to your band, or need a horn section for a show or recording session? Jay can provide whatever you need. Made up of some of the best players in the Midwest...these guys are sure to please! These guys have performed with everyone, from Lawrence Welk to Lynard Skynard! Jazz, Blues, Rock, Soul.....They can do it all! Any configuration from 2 to 6 horns....We have you covered! Additionally....The horn section is totally self contained, with all equipment needed for the performance, including Mic's and in Ear Monitors.
Educational Concerts
The Naptown Jazz 5 was founded in 1977 by the legendary Drummer Jack Gilfoy to provide Arts educational programming , specifically Jazz, to a wide variety of audiences. Upon Jack's passing, longtime member and trumpeter Steve Robinett took over the leadership and continued until his recent retirement. Upon Steve's retirement...Jay took over leadership of the group. The Naptown Jazz 5 plys many performances throughout the year at schools and community centers. We offer three different shows. The "Wee-Do-Wop" show is geared toward preschools. The "Fun with Jazz" show is geared toward Elementary/Early middle school Students, and The "Jazz State of Indiana" show is geared toward Junior High and Older.
